WEEK05: Green Screen Video Footage Processing

After screening by the director, more than 30 video clips were finally selected. My task this week is to process all the footage.

I used AE for cutout work. I searched for a lot of video tutorials on the Internet and finally chose to use the Primatte Keyer 6 plugin. It helped me with a quick cutout.

I also encountered a lot of trouble. For example, the actor’s hair is a bit messy, the actor is too close to the green screen to reflect green light, and the ISO is incorrect during recording, resulting in too much noise, etc., which will affect the post-cutting effect. I try my best to process every video material well.

I also worked on video footage for several action shots. This is cumbersome. Because of the many tracking points on the wall, I had to adjust the mask frame by frame. Although I had a lot of troubles, I also learned a lot of useful things from it, and I will avoid a lot of troubles and do better next time.

WEEK04: Setting Up the Place&Green Screen Shooting

We’re doing a green screen shoot this week, and we went to the green screen venue a day early for the set. I put tracking points on the green screen for later motion tracking.

These are some stills. In this shooting mission, I was mainly responsible for shooting stills and raising the microphone, etc. At the same time, coordinate the work of the recording division for the post-production work.

To achieve better results, we had the actors record the lines again in the studio.

These are the script and shot list.

The filming is progressing smoothly, and we are looking forward to the next tasks and results!

WEEK03: Find References&Scene Modelling

This week the producer brought two actors, Katia Kapustin and Jon Mckenna. After we communicated, we decided to start shooting next week. My task this week is very simple, just find some references and make a demo of the scene.

Here are some wood references

I tried making a demo of the woods based on these references, but it doesn’t look very harmonious and needs to be changed. But don’t worry too much, this demo is just an experiment to confirm the size and distance between the characters and the scene. 🙂

This is the reference map of the laboratory

I made a modern laboratory according to the reference, which did not meet the director’s ideal expectations, so director handed it over to my partner Zhongyao Zhang to find another reference and model the laboratory.

I’m on the right :)

We also went to the motion capture classroom and tried motion capture with Noma removing her arm.

This is our test.

Project Brief:

This is a short film exploring difference, humanity and technology working with Film major students. The film will be shot using live-action and post-production special effects compositing. The story takes place in a future where humans fear that the technology they create will rule them. They lead to a series of anti-technology movements, one of which is the destruction of AI robots

Story Brief:

When only one robot named Noma is left in the world, the person sent to hang her is Steven, the professor who created her at the time. Noma has almost human-like feelings and consciousness, and she is based on the image of Steven’s deceased daughter. When they meet, a conversation ensues…

Task Assignment:

I am responsible for scene design, mapping, lighting, rendering of the scene, modeling and the fusion of characters and scenes in the later stage in this production.

Aiming to get and career direction:

In this project I want to learn about filmmaking. There are too many things worth learning, such as the use of lighting, the integration of virtual and reality, and so on.

Visual metaphors in animation scene design

Introduction

As a cognitive phenomenon, metaphor is used in many fields. The visual metaphor established on the basis of metaphor theory has profound inspiration for artistic creation. The visual information of vision, and then generate new interpretation and associative cognitive phenomenon. This paper analyzes the application of visual metaphor in animation scene design from three aspects of animation scene color, shape and function design by combining the similarity principle of metaphor, and discusses the function and influence of visual metaphor on animation scene creation.

Keywords: metaphor, visual metaphor, animation design

Main Body

Part1: Metaphor and Visual Metaphor

In this part I will talk about metaphors, visual metaphors and their connections

In the field of visual art, the visual language established by metaphor theory has profound inspiring significance for artistic creation. The existence of visual metaphors can be seen everywhere in the creation of advertising, animation, film and television. Creators use visual metaphors to establish connections between abstract information and visual forms, and realize the visual expression of information meaning on the cognitive level.

Does the topic motivate you to research and discover?

I chose this theme because I love watching movies and reading reviews of all kinds of movies. Digging deeper into the plot of the film, metaphors are found throughout the film. So I want to analyze metaphors so that I can watch movies at a higher level in the future. You can even write your own reviews.

How might the research impact present or future theoretical and practical study? Are there potentials to apply new learning?

Let the reader know the important role of metaphor by demonstrating with examples. As a cognitive phenomenon, metaphor is applied in many fields, and the visual metaphor established on the basis of metaphor theory has profound significance for artistic creation. The topic of studying the application of visual metaphors in animation scenes will have a positive impact on the future or the present, and has certain application potential.

Audience: who and what is the report for?

Student and film or animation producer. Or a film or animation lover. Through research they can better understand the profound meaning of the work.

Purpose: what do you want them to know?

I think that in a work, both content and expression are indispensable. As an important form of expression, metaphor is worthy of our study. So I want them to have a better understanding of metaphors by reading my research and make better work.

Week08&09: Phonemes and performance

I chose a lyric because I like this song so much and it often gives me courage.

“Let it go”

Since I am not very good at acting, I found the characters in the MV to help me perform.

Frozen

I used the model I found on the Internet. I think it has better control and richer expressions, but it is very troublesome to operate.

Process screenshot

I think that a good character animation must have rich enough expressions to fully express the character’s heart. So I tried to exaggerate the expression a bit, but it seemed a bit too much.

I find it hard to control the eyes. Eyes can convey a lot of information, so it is a very important part. I added the action in the MV and adjusted the colors. I feel good.

Final work:

To the stars, through hardships.
